Foster Wheeler supports the principle of sustainable development, which was defined in 1987 by the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Foster Wheeler believes that it is the shared responsibility of business, governments, society and individuals throughout the world to contribute to greater sustainability.
To promote sustainable development Foster Wheeler will:
- Implement the requirements of Foster Wheeler's Health, Safety and Environmental Policy
- Implement Foster Wheeler's accredited Environmental Management System to minimize environmental harm
- Implement Foster Wheeler's Code of Ethics
- Work with clients, suppliers and subcontractors to establish partnerships, designed to develop and progress sustainable development.
- Provide appropriate and relevant training and guidance to employees to facilitate sustainable development.
- Develop partnerships within communities where Foster Wheeler operates.
